B-24 Liberator

B-24L-1-CO Liberator, A72-70, #44-41392, of 24 Squadron RAAF was lost in action near Timor on 23 January 1945. It was probably shot down by the notorious anti-aircraft fire at Cape Chater airfield on Timor. This was the first loss of an RAAF B-24 Liberator. Another pilot, possibly McDonald saw smoke from the wreckage.

This aircraft was delivered to the RAAF in September 1944 and had initially served with 7 Operational Training Unit (7 OTU)
